Here are several pictures that I will share with you.

First up, a photo that I was recently sent from Matt’s wedding. I don’t know if there’s some sort of optical illusion at play, but I don’t recall being that much shorter than the rest of the wedding party.

So wee

It looks like I should be:

a) perched on someone’s shoulder.
b) tying up Gulliver.
c) guarding me pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Second up, is a drawing done in MS Paint by my brother. Backstory: we flew back from Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday morning. We checked into a depressing Howard Johnson the night before and had scheduled a wake-up call for 4:30 a.m. so we could catch the 5 a.m. shuttle to the airport (7 a.m. flight to BWI). However, when we got to our room, the room next door was blasting mariachi music to the degree where it was a comfortable listening volume for us on the other side of the brick wall. I declared “I can’t live like this” and we called the front desk to see if we could change rooms.

They were able to accomodate us, but unfortunately we forgot to have our wake-up call transferred. Flash forward to the next morning, my mom calls us at 5:45 a.m. and asks me “Where are you guys?” I respond, not thinking clearly, “We’re at the hotel… oh crap!” I hang up the phone without finishing the conversation and we throw our stuff into our suitcases and run to the front desk. We end up getting on a shuttle with 5-6 truckers as the driver drops them off at the USA Truck Depot where they are all parked, and then making a special trip to the airport. At this point it’s snowing hard and we’re driving on snow-covered roads and I’m sweating bullets — as I’m chronically early to everything in my life and don’t have the constitution to handle this kind of pressure. We made it to the airport, miraculously, a half hour before the flight left.
So here’s a Valentine my brother sent to my Mom, inspired by the adventure.

Trucka

And then there’s this:

Communist party

A couple of weekends ago my roomates and I threw a communist party. Seriously. Karl Marx was on the e-vite (where you could respond with Marxist for Yes, Just a Socialist for Maybe and Capitalist Pig for No). We still haven’t taken down the decorations (a banner that says “Workers of the World Unite!”, stars and sickles all around, real-life Soviet propoganda that Keigh just happened to have on hand).

Well, the theme was embraced. Here’s a shot that John shared with me, and that I have labelled with arrows for clarity.

A - Ekrobi/Scotland Emily’s red velvet cupcakes with some sort of delicious cream cheesy frosting. An entire bottle of red food coloring went into the cake batter.

B - Kimchi from my brother. A Korean dish, which I don’t technically think counts, but an A for effort nonetheless.

C - The contribution that really stole the show — Kate’s sickle-shaped pretzel, handmade hours before the party.

D - Crystal’s plantains, representing Cuba.

That is really awesome commitment to the theme. I am so impressed and amused by the inclusion of those commie North Koreans.

To give credit where it is due - Kate assisted with the frosting/decorating of the cupcakes! (it was white chocolate peppermint cream cheese icing, btw) And I helped make the pretzel and translated the recipe from German. The brilliant idea was all Kate, though.

Oh, and Mary pre-heated the oven!
