Alexi Murdoch, The Subways, The Thermals, Nellie McKay and Be Your Own Pet are no doubt shaking their fists violently at being snubbed in place of the dependable band’s uneven fourth album. However, I’ve given it a bunch of spins and I find new tracks I like all the time. And I get to like some tracks more, the more I listen to them. This just isn’t as much of a crazy-go-nuts ferris wheel ride as Team Boo, but it’s still really good. I love what Mates of State do, they’re great live, so I guess they’ve earned number ten.
