Spoils of war
Okay, so I’ve been giving you music to listen to lately. Most of it is free stuff I’ve stumbled upon, listened to, enjoyed and carried on to you. But now I’ve sought something out because I’ve liked it so much.
One of the spoils of my CD burning party with Ekrobi was a CD by Joanna Newsom. She’s this weird chick with a weird haircut who plays the harp. Her voice is strange, to say the least. At its most shrill she can resemble a shrieking cat, but most of the time she just sounds like the wicked witch of the west.
But she is an amazing songwriter, her instrumentation is spare but full and (once you get used to it) her voice is intoxicating and addictive.
I’ve found a streaming file from NPR for one of my favorite songs on the album. It’s called “Sadie.”
Listen to it.
